Last week was National Single’s Week. I apologize for not letting you guys and gals out there know if you had not heard. Last week I could not get away from the slew of articles that let others know the great benefits of being single. As a single (by choice) I laughed and agreed at some and just cringed at others. But before I get any further let me just say in ‘ha-ha!’ way that we singles get an entire week, and Valentine’s Day (as much as it is also advertised as a day of friendship-yeah riiighhht) is only ONE DAY.
Last week I relished everything that made my life my life, and that included my decision to not be a ‘plus one’. I didn’t shave my legs for the entire week, I took pleasure sleeping in every imaginable position in my bed, I multi-tasked without causing anyone annoyance of not paying attention, I made last minute decisions, danced my ass off… okay, it was more like I choreographed dances to my heart’s little desire, I shopped for me and me, and yes, me!! And finally, I worried only for my plans and actions throughout everything. Pretty great huh? ABSOLUTELY.
Like everything in life there are some things I am missing. For instance, my hips have never been tighter! I have to actually take time during the day to stretch those puppies out! Last week my friends from Chicago came and we went to the beach. His new wife and I decided to show up the boys on who could paddle better in this immense inflatable raft. Well, let me tell you something as I was rafting my arms off while my hips cried for help. You see, I haven’t spread my legs out in that fashion for over seven months, and the pure thought of it made me laugh so hard that I just about fell into the water. My single status at the moment does not include that kind of extra curricular activity (I chose that). Oh, yeah, we girls kicked the guys butt’s.
By the way, during this time with my friends from Chicago I was among 6 couples (that makes me lucky number 13!) I owned it. What’s your favorite thing as a single? I’d love to know 🙂
