Today is International Women’s Day. As a woman I feel like everyday is a day to educate people on the lack of equality as a whole that women have world wide. If you are a news junkie like I am you will see that internationally women are still working to protect some fundamental values that others take for granted. Here are a few of the issues we are still combating; female mutilation, second citizenship status, freedom of expression, misogyny, unequal pay for the same job performance to a man, and to be honest the list can go on. But I am proud to say that women along with some very progressive thinking men have come a long way to making women’s voices heard. We are amazing! Just as incredible (and in my opinion a little bit more than men) to men! Everything has a balance, and without women, well, then you’d have a completely lope sided world. I don’t wish to bring back the notion that women are angels and the good of society while hallmarking men as dangerous and capable of doing not so wonderful things like our predecessor did (one of the reasons why it took so long for women to gain the right to vote here in U.S.). On the contrary, I think we are all capable of all sorts of acts, it is whether or not we can rationalize our actions that makes a difference.
There have been a surmountable amount of women in history that can testify to the will, determination, intelligence, compassion, and forward thinking that we can easily pinpoint to make our point. But everyday we have a woman in our lives that makes our day better, worth living, and gives us that push to makes us the person we know we can be. Today take a look a special woman in your life and tell her how amazing she is (because I am sure you would probably still be walking around differently if she wasn’t there). And remember, we are tougher than you might think, much, much tougher.
