Ladies and gentlemen, I am proud to announce that will be breaking another traditional role…. I have been asked to be a groomsman for my best friends wedding! I am a huge fan of the non-traditional roles (I tend to be a bit of a feminist) and could not be happier that my dearest friend has asked me to stand by his side on his big day. This will be my first time (aside when I was a flower girl… I can’t even remember I was so young, thank goodness for pictures!) being part of a wedding party. I have been the date to many and a guest as well, but my first time being asked to join in the close niche of wedding party member. Not only is this man like a brother to me, but his fiancee is an absolutely beautiful person (yes, I do mean inside and out). I love them both dearly and cannot wait till May 9th to share in their happy joy for one another.
Now, I have been getting a lot of weird looks and scoffs from others, “you’re a girl, you’re not suppose to be a groomsmen”, and “that’s ridiculous!”. But what does it matter? Man or woman, if someone wants you to be part of something that is special to them then who is to say that you can’t?? Besides, as lovely as his fiancee is, I don’t want to bear the burnt of a bridezilla… it could happen. I’ve always been a guy’s girl; the beer drinking, athletic, outgoing, and low maintenance, so standing with the guys is not a big deal. On the plus side, I don’t get to wear a fru-fru guava dress… eeekkk! I will be in a classic black dress (that the she approved, but I got to pick out).
With all of this said and done, I have to get into major shape! Yes, it’s about the bride, but this dress shows some leg and I’ll be damned if I don’t have the best gams on the men side, haha. The gym and I (which we have been doing really well as of late) will be the best of friends. I hope to see them in Chicago before the wedding, but till then I have a lot to do; book flight, buy gift, get dress, reserve hotel room…. sheeesh I need to get on it!
If any of you have been groomsmen before, I’d greatly appreciate any advice! Happy Tuesday!
