Everyone is taking about the Mayan Calendar and it’s supposed impending doom. Anthropologist haven’t even been able to confirm such statements and the world continues to clamor into a frenzy (either it be good or bad). All I have to say regards this is: we need to change.
That’s all. We as homo sapiens sapiens need to change. Our moral, our ethics, and views of others need to be re-evaluated and changed . I know we all think of ourselves as good people; we use our blinkers, give money to the homeless, smile, and say thank you. That’s all great, really it is, but here is the problem, in our society we have a tendency to live in our bubble, to only work on what we see and do as we are told. If at any point we see someone who could use compassion outside of our scheduled day we may tend to brush it off and hope someone else helps. We need compassion, we need understanding, an immediate stop to ethnocentricity which sadly I feel we still have a few who champion this.
The school shooting at Sandy Hook Elementary School is something that could have been prevented. Let’s take away the fact that there is no obvious reason to have automatic weapons. NONE. This lost soul was crying out for help. Just because he wasn’t verbally calling out doesn’t mean he wasn’t it. It was said that he was burning himself… it hurts my heart to hear of his self mutilation. I wonder what could have gone through his mind that he thought was the end of himself, and so much so that he felt the need to take not only his life but the life of others. I can’t quiet grasp the issue, I cry every time I see one of the victims. We can’t wait till the last minute to say “okay, okay, put the gun down and let me help you.” This is not acceptable, we need to be there for one another, because if we aren’t we are failing as individuals, and as a collective. You’ve hear the phrase “you’re only as strong as you’re weakest link”, well we are weak, weak and apparently scared.
So here is a thought (and with it great amount of hope) that we find it in our hearts and mind to see this Mayan Calendar as a reset to our humanity. Let’s Tabula Rasa this thing (referring to a clean slate as Dr. Carl Jung like to say)! All of the atrocities that transpired in the last Era before our December 21st reset let them lie, and let us look forward to one where we can be proud to look back on. May our descendants look at our future deeds with marvel and admiration, rather than as a repetitious cycle of horrors and closed mindedness.
Open your heart, smile, and see the good in everyone. Because it is there, it may just have veered off course.
